Consolidated Media Coverage Report - OTICON 2024, 61st Annual National Conference & CHIRAKU, Free Disability Assessment & Caregiver Training Program

The 61st Annual National Conference of AIOTA, OTICON 2024, organized by Kerala Occupational Therapists' Association (KOTA) was held on January 19, 20 & 21, 2024 at Gokulam Park & Convention Centre, Kochi. The national conference ,held in Kerala after 10 years, was well received and KOTA is happy to announce the grand success of the event. The program was attended by 1000+ delegates and student delegates from all over the country. Continuing Occupational Therapy Education (COTE), the preconference event, was inaugurated by Shri Hibi Eden, MP and OTICON was inaugurated by Justice Cyriac Joseph, former Supreme Court Judge. There were 40+ thought provoking scientific paper presentations besides panel discussions, guest talks, poster presentations, IT displays, street plays and cultural programs.

Chiraku, the free disability program, initiated by AIOTA and KOTA in collaboration with National Institute of Physical Mediine and Rehabilitation (NIPMR) and National Institute of Speech & Hearing (NISH) was inaugurated by Smt. Uma Thomas, MLA on 19th January 2024. Through this program, over 70+ children were provided free assessment and personalized home programs by experienced rehabilitation professionals from NIPMR and NISH, autonomous institutions under Social Justice Department, Government of Kerala. Alongside the Individual Consultations on January 19th and 20th, 2024, training sessions specifically tailored for parents were conducted as part of the program. These sessions covered a wide array of topics that included Adolescent development, Sensory Integration and feeding issues, ADL and assistive devices in ADL, Sensory Issues and Sensory Integration Therapy and Feeding issues in children with Special needs with special reference to the crucial role of Occupational Therapy. A specially crafted training session for teachers was held on January 21, 2024, focusing on the early detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder and effective management of classroom behaviours.
